A Short History of EVOO in the New World

Italian explorer Christopher Columbus brought the first olive oil to the Americas when he sailed the New World in 1492. Prior to the 1970s, only lesser grades of olive oil were available to US consumers.

Scientists began investigating EVOO's health-giving molecules and properties in the 1970s. By the 1980s, the popularity of the Mediterranean diet brought widespread knowledge of EVOO's value in supporting cardiovascular health.
